Black History Month Kickoff to focus on Cultural Unity: Yesterday’s Seeds Planted for Tomorrow

February 5, 2022 @ 8:00 am - 9:00 am

The Sunnyhills Neighborhood Association and Flame Keepers invite you to usher in  2022’s Black History Month on Saturday, Feb. 5th, at 9 AM, with an online celebration via zoom. This year’s theme, Cultural Unity, brings a focus on unity and the shared values of our community. Our keynote speaker, Civil Rights lawyer Deb Volberg Pagnotta, resides in White Plains New York but is a native of Milpitas. Pagnotta’s father, Dave Volberg, was the whistleblower instrumental in the development of Sunnyhills. We look forward to an examination of the seeds planted for greatness. Pagnotta has a passion for human diversity in communication with all its messiness, complexity, and constant surprises. At the core of all her work as a lawyer, trainer, mediator, professor, storyteller, entrepreneur is a focus on helping people communicate more effectively, ethically, and efficiently.

Please RSVP to info@sunnyhillsneighborhood.org. With the support and collaboration of all helping to usher in Black History Month this year, it will be a great success and a memorable experience. Please feel free to email or call with any questions or concerns at Demetress1@aol.com or (408) 935-8074.

Demetress Morris is the head of Flame Keepers as well as the Milpitas Black Caucus in Silicon Valley. Ms. Morris founded Flame Keepers in 2004, an African-American community group that works to close the racial achievement gap in the Milpitas Unified School District. The endeavors made by Flame keepers allow for collaboration, support, and unity throughout our neighborhoods working with organizations such as Sunnyhills Neighborhood Association to bring about sustainable change. Demetress is also on the board of the Sunnyhills Neighborhood Association.

Sunnyhills Neighborhood Association is  a volunteer group of local residents actively working to improve the Sunnyhills neighborhood and the city of Milpitas through positive activities and programs. We sponsor monthly community breakfast presentations, a 50-year old tradition in Milpitas. All Milpitas residents and business owners are invited to attend. We look forward to returning to in-person events later in 2022. Website: https://sunnyhillsneighborhood.org/
